Moustafa obtained his BSc. in medicinal chemistry and pharmaceutical sciences from Faculty of Pharmacy, Tanta University in Egypt. He then went to work as a research assistant at Medical Research Institute of Alexandria University where he worked on inter-generational inheritance of diabetes in mice. He came to IU Bloomington to do basic biology research which he intends to do in the Zentner lab, where he will be studying the role of Mediator in transcription. Outside the lab, Moustafa enjoys reading, listening to music, playing the piano and cooking.
